KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS." " And lo! there was a great earthquake: and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; and the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heavens departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains and the mighty men, and every bond-man, and every free-man hid themselves in the dens and rocks of the mountains and said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: for the great day of his wrath is come, and who shall be able to stand?" The piercing agonizing cry will be in vain! It will be answered by the awful pealing "trump of God." The

trumpet shall sound,-and the dead shall be raised;""all that are in their graves shall hear his voice, and shall

forth."

But ever watchful over his beloved people, tenderly anxious that they should not be overwhelmed with fear in the dreadful scene approaching,-before the conflagration of the whole world, and the death shriek of the lost, the Lord, the mighty Judge," shall send his angels, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." For the dead in Christ shall rise first;" and they "which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air." "And before him shall be gathered all nations." "And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; the sea gave up the dead which

were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them."

Then will come the fearful destruction of a world, which has bounded the wishes, engrossed the feelings, and absorbed the thoughts of so many immortal spirits! "The foundations of the earth do shake : the earth is moved exceedingly the earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard." The heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up :" "and it shall fall,—and not rise again.” Then "the judgment" will be "set," "and "the books" will be "opened," "And another book was opened which is the book of life and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works." "Then shall the King say unto" his glorified saints. ranged" on his right hand, come, ye

blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels ;" "and they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison." "The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever; and they have no rest day or night."

Then shall the redeemed adore their Deliverer, their Saviour, their God, their Judge! "And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters; (but as they re

called their past dangers, and felt their complete deliverance,-their present glorious safety, the song of thanksgiving became) as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth: let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him.”

And Oh! with what transports of unknown joy will the Redeemer and his redeemed enter heaven, to see the face of their God and Father in glory, and to take possession of the "mansions" prepared for them. With what a burst of ecstatic gratitude will they exclaim, while millions and millions of rejoicing angels will join their blest voices, "Worthy is the Lamb to receive power, and riches and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing:" but with what thrilling feelings will these blood bought souls prolong the strain,-"For thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God
