3 Τί ούν το περισσόν του Ιουδαίου, ή τίς ή ωφέλεια της 2 περιτομής; πολύ, κατά πάντα τρόπον. πρώτον μεν γαρ 3 ότι έπιστεύθησαν τα λόγια του Θεού. τί γαρ, ει ήπίστη

σάν τινες και μη η απιστία αυτών την πίστιν του Θεού κατ4 αργήσει και μη γένοιτο γινέσθω δε ο Θεός αληθής, πας δε

άνθρωπος ψεύστης, καθώς γέγραπται, "Όπως αν δικαιωθής 5 εν τοις λόγοις σου, και νικήσης εν τω κρίνεσθαί σε, ει

δε η αδικία ημών Θεού δικαιοσύνην συνίστησι, τί ερούμεν ; μή άδικος ο Θεός και επιφέρων την οργήν; κατά άν6 θρωπον λέγω. μη γένοιτο· επεί πως κρινει ο Θεός τον 7 κόσμον ; ει γαρ η αλήθεια του Θεού εν τω εμώ ψεύσματι

επερίσσευσεν εις την δόξαν αυτού, τί έτι κάγώ ως αμαρ8 τωλός κρίνομαι ; και μη καθώς βλασφημούμεθα, και καθώς φασί τινες ημάς λέγειν, ότι ποιήσωμεν τα κακά ίνα έλθη τα αγαθά; ών το κρίμα ένδικόν έστι. 9 Τί ούν; προεχόμεθα; ου πάντως προητιασάμεθα γαρ

Ιουδαίους τε και "Έλληνας πάντας υφ' αμαρτίαν είναι, 1ο, 11 καθώς γέγραπται, Ότι ουκ έστι δίκαιος ουδε εις ουκ 12 έστιν ο συνιών, ουκ έστιν ο εκζητών τον Θεόν. πάντες

εξέκλιναν, άμα ήχρειώθησαν. ουκ έστι ποιών χρηστό13 τητα, ουκ έστιν έως ενός. τάφος ανεωγμένος ο λάρυγε

αυτών, ταϊς γλώσσαις αυτών εδολιούσαν: ιος ασπί

δων υπό τα χείλη αυτών ών το στόμα αράς και πικρίας 15, 16 γέμει. οξείς οι πόδες αυτών εκχέαι αιμα: σύντριμμα

και ταλαιπωρία εν ταις οδούς αυτών και οδόν ειρήνης 18 ουκ έγνωσαν. ουκ έστι φόβος Θεού απέναντι των 19 οφθαλμών αυτών. οίδαμεν δε ότι όσα ο νόμος λέγει,

τοίς εν τω νόμω λαλεί ίνα παν στόμα φραγή, και υπό2ο δικος γένηται πάς ο κόσμος τω Θεώ. διότι εξ έργων

νόμου ού δικαιωθήσεται πάσα σαρξ ενώπιον αυτού διά γαρ νόμου επίγνωσις αμαρτίας.

Νυνί δε χωρίς νόμου δικαιοσύνη Θεού πεφανέρωται,

3 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is 2 there of circumcision ? Much every way: chiefly, be

22 μαρτυρουμένη υπό του νόμου και των προφητών δικαιο

σύνη δε Θεού διά πίστεως Ιησού Χριστού, εις πάντας και

επί πάντας τους πιστεύοντας ου γάρ έστι διαστολής 23 πάντες γαρ ήμαρτον, και υστερούνται της δόξης του Θεού, 24 δικαιούμενοι δωρεάν τη αυτού χάριτι, διά της απολυτρώ25 σεως της εν Χριστώ Ιησού, ον προέθετο ο Θεός ελαστή

καύχησις; εξεκλείσθη διά ποίου νόμου και των έργων και 28 ουχί, αλλά δια νόμου πίστεως. λογιζόμεθα ούν, πίστει 29 δικαιούσθαι άνθρωπον, χωρίς έργων νόμου. ή Ιουδαίων και 3ο Θεός μόνον; ουχί δε και εθνών; ναι και εθνών. επείπερ

εις ο Θεός, ός δικαιώσει περιτομήν εκ πίστεως, και ακρο31 βυστίαν διά της πίστεως. νόμον ούν καταργούμεν διά της

πίστεως ; μη γένοιτο' αλλά νόμον ιστώμεν. 4 ΤΙ ούν έρούμεν 'Αβραάμ τον πατέρα ημών ευρηκέναι 2 κατά σάρκα ; ει γαρ 'Αβραάμ εξ έργων εδικαιώθη, έχει 3 καύχημα, αλλ' ού προς τον Θεόν. τί γαρ η γραφή λέγει ;

'Επίστευσε δε 'Αβραάμ τω Θεώ, και ελογίσθη αυτώ εις 4 δικαιοσύνην. το δε εργαζομένω ο μισθός ου λογίζεται 5 κατά χάριν, αλλά κατά το οφείλημα" τω δε μη εργαζο

μένω, πιστεύοντι δε επί τον δικαιούνται τον ασεβή, λογί6ζεται η πίστις αυτού εις δικαιοσύνην. καθάπερ και Δαβίδ

λέγει τον μακαρισμός του ανθρώπου, και ο Θεός λογί7ζεται δικαιοσύνην, χωρίς έργων, Μακάριοι ών αφέθησαν 8 αι ανομίαι, και ών επεκαλύφθησαν αι αμαρτίαι. μακά9 ριος ανήρ ω ου μη λογίσηται Κύριος αμαρτίαν. Ο μακαρισμός ούν ούτος, επί την περιτομήν ή και επί την ακρο

βυστίαν; λέγομεν γαρ ότι ελογίσθη το 'Αβραάμ ή. το πίστις εις δικαιοσύνην πώς oύν ελογίσθη; έν περιτομή
