The history of Wark Castle is now concluded, and will be issued in a few days
in a separate form by the publisher of the "BORDER MAGAZINE." The work will be
eagerly sought after, it takes up ground previously unoccupied, and although it
may have appeared to some of our readers unsystematic and digressive, judging
by detached parts; when they examine it as a whole, these opinions will vanish.
It has been favourably noticed by most reviewers, and no wonder, for the series con-
tains an amazing amount of information; and remarkable events and persons are
given under proper data, at the right time and place. We know that some foolishly
judge of a building by a single brick, and there are only a few who can rightly
judge of any work when half finished. The history of Wark Castle is now written,
and will occupy its place conspicuously and prominently among the archives of
Border literature; and people of education and aptitude for historical narrative
will find therein, an epitome of the most stirring events and vicissitudes connected
with Border history. -- ED.
