vantes, the prince of Spanish literature, en-
riched with Illustrations by Gustave Doré, is
so sure of a hearty reception at the hands of the
British Public, that the Publishers might well
rest satisfied with the simple announcement.
But when it is remembered that DON QUIXOTE
stands pre-eminent as one of the oldest classical spe-
cimens of romantic fiction, as well as one of the most

had not been fortunate enough to secure the productions of a
painter equal to do justice to the genius of Cervantes, they would
hardly have ventured to offer an Illustrated Edition of this great

happily equal to reflecting the pen of a Cervantes; and so the
Publishers are able to promise that this Edition shall be as worthy
of the Work and its Author as Art can make it.

But the text of DON QUIXOTE is so universally recognised as a
masterpiece of composition, that it would be out of place to lavish
