THE following pages are intended to contain a concise but explanatory summary of the Law of Debtor and Creditor, as connected with the late Abolition of Imprisonment for Debt on First Process, and the substitution of new remedies and processes in favour of Creditors and Relief of Debtors.

The measure which forms the subject of these few sheets, having caused much discussion, both as to its expediency as a means of relief to the Debtor and additional remedy to the Creditor, there needs not (it is trusted), any apology for offering this petty Treatise to the Public, for whom, and not the legal profession (to which the Editor belongs), it is designed, utility being the sole motive which has dictated the production of the work.

TO THE SECOND EDITION.

The Author avails himself of the demand for a Second Edition to make some additions to this little Treatise as well as to notice some important matters wherein the public are concerned, and upon which the late Act indirectly operates.

The Index has been enlarged and the text carefully compared with the Act, and vouched by references to each section, so that an interested or professional reader can readily refer to any portion of the Act itself for information of a more precise and technical nature than such a work as the present can be expected to afford.
