same is hereby made to the Board of Estimate and Ap portionment for the transfer of the sum of four hundred and fifty-eight dollars and thirty-three cents ($458.33 from the unexpended balance of an appropriation to the Board of Education for the year 1887, entitled "For Public Instruction-For Supplies, Books, Maps, Slates. Stationery, etc., for the use of all the Schools," to the fund for "Public Instruction, 1888-For Salaries of City Superintendent and Seven Assistants."

The COMPTROLLER presented the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Board of Estimate and Apportionment be and they hereby are respectfully requested to trausfer the sum of four thousand dollars ($4,000) from the fund apportioned by them for "Public Instruction, 1888-Repairs to Buildings -Special," to the fund so apportioned, entitled "For Heating Apparatus, Changes and Repairs of Special."

Hon. ABRAM S. HEWITT, Mayor, and Chairman Board of Estimate and Apportionment:

Sir, In consequence of the continuance of the warm weather beyond the time contemplated in the Departmental Estimate for salaries of attendants at free floating baths, the baths have been kept open for the benefit of the public longer than in past seasons, and the expenditures for salaries of Keepers and Attendants at the baths is thus increased to the amount of $1,600 beyond the sum appropriated therefor, I therefore respectfully request that the said sum of $1,600 be transferred to the appropriation for "Free Floating Baths-Salaries," for 1888, from the appropriation for "Free Floating Baths," for 1888, from which the said amount can be spared.

And offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the sum of one thousand six hundred dollars ($1,600) be and is hereby transferred from the appropriation to the Department of Public Works, entitled "Free Floating Baths," for 1888, which is in excess of the amount required for the purposes thereof, to the appropriation entitled "Salaries, Department of Public Works-For Free Floating Baths -Salaries," for 1888, which is insufficient for the purposes thereof.

Which was adopted by the following vote: Affirmative-The Mayor, Comptroller, Vice-President of the Board of Aldermen, and President of

the Department of Taxes and Assessments. -4.

The COMPTROLLER offered the following resolution: Resolved, That the sum of three hundred and thirty-seven dollars ($337) be and is hereby transferred from the appropriation entitled "Salaries-Judiciary, City Court of New York, Salaries of Clerks, etc.," for 1888, which is in excess of the amount required for the purposes thereof, to the appropriation for the Department of Public Works, entitled "Supplies for and Cleaning Public Offices," for 1888, for the purchase of carpets for Room 19, City Hall (Special Term Room, City Court), estimated cost, two hundred and twentyfive dollars ($225), and for clocks for Judges' Library and Chambers (Room No. 9); for Trial Term, Part I. (Room No. 20); for Trial Term, Part II. (Room No. 21), and for Special Term (Room No. 19), estimated cost of each of said clocks being thirty dollars ($30).

Which was lost by the following vote :

Affirmative-The Comptroller and President of the Department of Taxes and Assessments-2. Negative-The Mayor and Vice-President of the Board of Aldermen--2.

After discussion, the COMPTROLLER offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the sum of two hundred and twenty-five dollars ($225) be and is hereby transferred from the

appropriation entitled "Salaries Judiciary-City Cour of New York, Salaries of Clerks, etc.," for 1888, whic is in excess of the amount required for the purposes thereof, to the appropriation for the Department of Public Works, entitled "Supplies for and Cleaning Public Offices," for 1888, for the purchase of carpets for Room 19, City Hall (Special Term Room, City Court). Estimated cost, two hundred and twenty-five dollars ($225).

Which was adopted by the following vote:

Affirmative-The Mayor, Comptroller, Vice-President of the Board of Aldermen, and President of the Department of Taxes and Assessments

The COMPTROLLER offered the following preamble and resolution:

Whereas, The Chamberlain has requested the transfer of six thousand three hundred and sixty dollars ($6,360) to pay jurors' fees, and the appropriation therefor is insufficient:

Resolved, That the sum of six thousand three hundred and sixty dollars ($6,360) be and is hereby transferred from the appropriation entitled "Interest on Revenue Bonds for 1886 and 1887," for 1887, which is in excess of the amount required for the purpose thereof, to the appropriation entitled "Jurors' Fees, including expenses of Jurors in Civil and Criminal Trials, etc.," for 1888, which is insufficient for the purposes thereof.
