LAW DEPARTMENT,

OFFICE OF THE COUNSEL TO THE CORPORATION,
NEW YORK, February 10, 1888.

Hon. THEODORE W. MYERS, Comptroller of the City of
New York:

Sir, I have received from the Finance Department the claim of Mr. Peter B. Vermilyea, assignee of Robert L. Baldwin, for services rendered by Baldwin as Inspector of the Board of Excise from May 1, 1886, to July 7, 1886, at the rate of $75 per month.

Pursuant to your request, an examination of the claimant and his assignor have been made, by which the claim is presumptively established.

I am also informed that the records of the Excise Department sustain the allegation that Mr. Baldwin was

employed in the capacity of Inspector at the rate of $75 per month for the period named.

I therefore advise you that this claim is of the same character as the claim of James F. Butler and nineteen others mentioned in the letter of the late Corporation Counsel, dated December 5, 1887, addressed to the Finance Department.

The claim should therefore be adjusted and paid in the manner indicated in that letter.

I remain,

Yours, respectfully,

HENRY R. BEEKMAN,

Counsel to the Corporation.
