PREFACE

Encouraged by our success in the preparation of educational courses for home study in engineering and the applied sciences, we present in these pages a course of instruction for home study in the rules and principles of law that govern the most important business relations. These volumes contain the Instruction Papers and Examination Questions of a thorough course in Commercial Law for merchants, bankers, and business men generally, and those in their employ; also for notaries public, justices of the peace, and all others who may require such knowledge. The principles of law applicable to contracts, the domestic relations, trusts, the administration of estates, agency, bailment, and all other important topics are clearly and concisely covered. These textbooks are better suited for the study of Commercial Law by the business classes and those holding official positions who have not had a training in the law, but require a knowledge of its applications to intelligently and satisfactorily perform their duties, than any other publication as yet issued for this purpose, and will also be of great value to law students who are preparing to practice law.

The volumes are six in number. The first four contain the principles as comprised in the Instruction Papers of the Course, arranged in accordance with the method adopted for teaching all of our Courses. Another volume is an Appendix, wherein is given a digest of the statute laws of various jurisdictions relative to the topics treated in the first four books. There is also a Book of Forms, which is devoted to showing the manner of constructing the various instruments useful in general business and conveyancing.
