A.D. 1809 every fuch Collector's Accounts: Provided always, that no Clerk of any General Meeting fhall be entitled to receive in any One Year more than Thirty Guineas, nor any Clerk of any Subdivifional Meeting more than Twenty Guineas, from the Collectors of His Majelty's Revenue, for his Attendance at fuch Meeting respectively, any Law to the contrary notwithstanding: Provided also, that every Clerk of a General or Subdivifional Meeting fhall, before he be entitled to receive any Payment as aforefaid, feverally enter into Recognizance before a Juftice of the Peace, which Recognizance every Juftice is hereby empowered to take, the Clerk of the General Meeting in the Sum of Fifty Pounds, and the Clerk of a Sub-divifional Meeting in the Sum of Thirty Pounds, conditioned that he fhall duly and diligently attend his Duty as Clerk, for One Year from the Date thereof; and that in every Order to the Collector of His Majefty's Revenue for Payment to any Clerk, his having entered into fuch Recognizance fhall be certified, or fuch Order fhall be void and of no Effect.

LXXVII. And, in order to make Compenfation to the Clerk of the Peace and the Clerk of the Sub-divifional Meetings for the Trouble impofed on them by this Act;' Be it therefore enacted, That it fhall be lawful for all Grand Juries at Affizes, and for the Grand Juries of the County and County of the City of Dublin, at prefenting Terms, to prefent to be raised off the County at large, and and Subdivifion paid to the Clerk of the Peace for his Trouble in the Execution of the Militia Laws, any Sum not exceeding Twenty Pounds a Year, over and above all other Sums which by Law they are now empowered to prefent to be paid to him, and to prefent to be raifed in like Manner, and paid to fuch Clerk of a Subdivifional Meeting, a Sum after the Rate of Six Shillings for every One hundred Naines of Perfons contained in the amended and other Lifts made under the Provifions of this Act, for the Subdivifions of which he shall be Clerk.

LXXVIII. Provided always, and be it further enacted, That if no Prefentment any Clerk of the Peace or Clerk of the Subdivifion Meeting fhall, in any County or County of a City, neglect or omit to do any A& which by this A& he is required to do, no Prefentment fhail be made of fiated at any Affizes in fuch County or County of a City, or at any Term if in the County or City of Dublin for any Money to be paid to him.

LXXIX. And be it further enacted, That General Meetings of the Governor or Governors, and Deputy Governors of every County or County of a City or Town, fhall be holden in fome Town of every fuch County, and fuch General Meetings fhall confift of the Gover nor or Governors, or any of them, together with One Deputy Governor at leaft, or on the Death or Removal, or in the Abfence of the Governor or Governors, or all of them, then of Three Deputy Governors at the leaft of every County or County of a City or Town refpectively; and fuch General Meetings fhall be holden within every County, and within each of the faid Counties of the Cities of Dublin, Cork, and Limerick, and of the Town of Drogheda, by or under the Orders of the Lord Lieutenant or other Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland for the Time being, in Manner herein-after mentioned; and fuch General Meetings hall General Meeting alfo be held annually upon the Tuesday that fhall happen next

before the Twenty-fourth Day of Odober in every Year, and when and as often as any Governor, or any Two Deputy Governors as aforefaid, fhall find it neceffary for carrying the Purposes of this A& duly and fully into Execution; and that fuch Governor or Deputy Governors fhall and may, by Notice in Writing to the Clerk of the General Meeting, fummon or caufe to be fummoned fuch General Meetings, on any Days to be fixed by fuch Summonfes, Other General of which Places of holding fuch Meetings refpectively, Notice fhall Meetings. be given by the Clerk of the General Meetings in any Newspaper,

if any there fhail be published in fuch County or County of a City, Fourteen Days at the leaft before the Day appointed for holding fuch Meeting refpectively.

LXXX. And be it further enacted, That fuch Governors and Dividing of Deputy Governors, or a competent Number thereof, appointed at any Counties into General Meeting, fhall or may divide every fuch County into fuch Subdivifions. Subdivifions as they shall think most expedient for the Purposes of this A&t, and fhall or may change the same from Time to Time as they fhali think proper: Provided always, that the Subdivifions heretofore made and eftablished, or which before the Commencement of this A&t fhall be duly made and eftablished, shall remain and continue until the fame fhall be duly altered, as if this Act had not been made: Provided alfo, that it fhail not be lawful for any Governors or Deputy Governors to divide any County into any greater Number of Subdivifions than fhall be equal to Four Times the Number of Baronies contained in fuch County, without the exprefs Approbation and Confent of the Lord Lieutenant or other Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland for the Time being in that Behalf obtained.

LXXXI. And be it further enacted, That Subdivifional Meetings Subdivifionalof the Governor or Governors and Deputy Governors within the faid Meetings. Subdivisions of the respective Counties or Counties of Cities, or Towns, fhall be holden from Time to Time, and every fuch Subdivi fional Meeting hall confift of Two Members at the least, and shall and may be held at fuch Times and Places within the faid Subdivifions refpectively as fhall be directed at any General Meeting duly convened, or as fhall be appointed by Notice in Writing to the Clerk of fuch Subdivifion by any Governor, or by any Deputy Governor relident within fuch Subdivifion; and that every Deputy Governor of any County fhal, if he thinks fit, attend all Subdivifion Meetings of fuch County, and act and vote therein as if he was refident in fuch Subdivifion.

LXXXII. And be it further enacted, That all General and Sub- Adjournmente divifion Meetings, to be from Time to Time holden under this Act, of General fhall and may adjourn as they fhall find expedient for the Execution Meetings and of this Act; and in cafe the Number of Governors or Deputy Gover- Subdivifional Meetings. nors required to form any General Meeting or Subdivifional Meeting fhall not attend at the feveral Times and Places refpectively appointed for fuch General or Subdivifional Meetings refpectively, then and in every fuch Cafe the Clerk of fuch General or Subdivifional Meeting, as the Cafe may be, fhail adjourn fuch General or Subdivifional Meeting refpectively to fome fubfequent Time, not exceeding the Dif tance of Seven Days to be holden at the fame Place.

LXXXIII. And be it further enacted, That the respective Clerks Notice of of the Subdivifion Meetings fhall forthwith, or as foon as conveniently Subdivifional may be after any Subdivifion Meeting fhall have been appointed, Meetings,

LXXXIV. And be it further enacted, That whenever either for the forming any Regiment or Battalion of Militia in Ireland, or for filing up any Vacancies therein by Death, Defention, or lawful Dif. charge, the Lord Lieutenant or other Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland for the Time being, fhall order that the neceffary Number of Men fhall be raised by Ballot, and that new Litts fhall be returned for the feveral Diftris, Parishes, and Places within the County, County of a Cty, or Town, or District to which fuch Regiment or Battalion belongs. and fuch Order fhall be notified by Proclamation in the Dublin Gazelle, or by the Letter of the Chief Secretary for the Time being, to any Governor or Governors of the County or County of a City to which fuch Regiment or Battalion fhall belorg then and in every fuch Cafe the Governor or Governors of fuch County or County of a City, or any of them. fhall forthwith fummon a General Meeting to be held therein, within Ten Davs from the Date of fuch Proclamation or the Receipt of fuch Letter; and the Governor or Governors and D-puty Governors, or a competent Number thereof affembled at fuch General Meeting, fhall appoint a convenient Place and Time, not more diftant than Twenty Days, or fooner than Eight Days, for a Meeting in every Subdivifion within the County, County of a City, or Diftri&t to which fuch Regiment or Battalion belongs; and they fhall alfo iffue their Commands in Writing to the feveral High or Chief Conftables, or where there fhail not be a High or Chief Con ftable to fome other P.ae Officer, or to the Collector of the Publick Cefs in each Barony of fuch County or Diitr &t. or in fuch Cou: ty of a City, requiring each of them to ifiue an Order under his Hand to al Contables or other Officers of very Parish or Place within his District, to make out far and trus Lifts of all Male Perfons ufually or at the Time refilent or dwelling within fuch Parish or Place, within the Ages of Sixteen and Forty-five Years, diftinguishing the Profeffion, Trade, or Occupation of cach, according to the Form in Schedule (A.) annexed to this Act; and when the true Name of any fuch Perion cannot be procured, fetting down his commen Appellation, which will be fufficient, and allo diftinguishing fuch as labour under any Infirmity likely to incapacitate them from ferving as Militia Men, and to return the fame to the Meeting appointed as aforefaid to be held in the Subdivifion where fech Parish or Place is fituated refpectively, verifying upon Oath at the Foot thereof, that he has formed the faid Lift or Lifts fairly, honeftly, and impartially, without Favour, Affection, or Malice towards any Perfon; and that he had ufed his belt Endeavours to discover the Names of all the Male Inhabitants of the Parish or Diftrict for which he has made a Return; and that the Name of every Perfon whom he difcovered to be dwelling or refident within fuch Parish or Piace, and who is liable and required by Law to be inferted therein, is inferted therein.

LXXXV. Provided always, and be it enacted, That if in any County or County of a City or Town fuch General Meeting fhail not be held within the Time aforefaid, it fhall and may be lawful for any One Governor of fuch County or County of a City or Town, within Six Days after the Expiration of the Time for holding fuch Meet

ing, to making Divifions of fuch County, County of a City or Town as aforefaid, if not already divided, appoint Times and Places for Sebdivifional Meetings, and iffue Orders for making out and returning Lifts in Manner aforefaid; and every fuch Divifion, Appointment, or Order, shall be as valid to all Intents and Purpofes as if the fame had been made at a General Meeting as aforefaid.

LXXXVI. Provided alio, and be it enacted, That if in any Parish Appointment or Place there fhall be no Conttable or other Officer, or fuch Con- of Special itable or other Officer shall refufe to receive the Order which shall be Confiables. given to him as atorefaid to make out the Lifts, the Chief or High Conitable or other Peace Officer or Collector, receiving the Command as aforesaid, shall appoint a fit and proper Perfon to act as Conftable taerein for the Purpofe of executing this A&t, and no other.

LXXXVII. And be it further enated, That no Perfon being one of the Peop'e called Quakers, fhall be appointed Chief, High, or Petty Conftable or other Officer, for the Purpose of carrying any of the Regulations of this Act into Execution: Provided always, That if any Perfon fhall be appointed to any fuch Office, and fhail refufe to accept thereof by reafon of his being one of the People called Quakers, and fhall produce a Certificate under the Hands of Two or more reputable Houlekeepers, being of the People called. Quakers, dated within the Three Months immediately preceding the Day on which it shall be produced, acknowledging fuch Perfon to be one of their Perfuafion, thereupon fome other fit and proper Perfon fhall be appointed Chief, High or Petty Conítable, or other Officer, in the Room of fuch Quaker, in order to carry this Act into perfect Execution.

LXXXVIII. And be it further enacted, That if any Conftable Penalty on or other Officer fhall neglect or refuse to make or return the Lift or Conftables Lifts which by this Act he shall be required to do, and be thereof not returning Lifts. convicted by his own Confeffion, or on the Oath of One credible Witnefs before any Juftice of the Peace, he fhail forfeit the Sum of Ten Pounds, to be levied on his Goods and Chattels under the Warrant of fuch Juftice, or in default thereof, he fhall be committed to Gaol, there to remain for the Space of Six Months, or until fuch Sum fhall be paid.

LXXXIX. · And Whereas the frequent Attendance of the feveral
High and Petty or Parish Conftables is required to carry this Act

into Execution;' Be it enacted, That from and after the paffing Allowances to of this Act, the Collector of His Majefty's Revenue for every County Conftables for fhall pay to every High Conftable the Sum of Eleven Shillings and their Attendance. Four-pence Halfpenny, and to every Petty or Parish Conftable the Sum of Five Shillings and Five-pence, for each and every Day the faid High, Petty, or Parish Conftables fhall be certified, under the Hands of the Perfons prefiding at any General or Sub-divifional Meeting, to have been actually in Attendance or on Duty in carrying this Act into Execution; provided that the whole Sum to any High Conftable fhall not exceed Twenty Pounds in any One Year, and that the whole Sum to any fuch Petty or Parish Conftable in any One Year fhall not exceed the Sum of Twelve Pounds; and fuch Payments fhall be allowed in every Collector's Accounts.

XC. And be it further enacted, That it fhall be lawful for the Governors and Governor, Governors, or Deputy Governors within any Sub-divifion, Deputy from Time to Time, to iffue their Order or Warrant under their Governors may

Two or more Counties fhall be confidered as feparate Parishes in the respective Counties.

Lifts of Parishes may be united for the Ballot.

Hands and Seals, requiring the Attendance of any Conftable or other Officer of the Parish or Place within fuch Sub-divifion, at fuch Time and Place as in fuch Order or Warrant shall be expreffed; and if fuch Conflable or other Officer fhall refufe or neglect to appear according to fuch Order or Warrant, and if any Chief or High Constable, or other Officer of any Barony, or other Officer of any Parish or Place, whether appointed under this Act or otherwife, fhall refufe or neglect to return any fuch Lift as before directed, or to comply with fuch Orders and Directions as they fhall refp ctively from Time to Time receive from the faid Governor or Governors, or Deputy Governors, in pursuance of this A&t, or fhall, in making fuch Return, be guilty of any Fraud or wilful Partiality or grofs Neglect in his Duty, the faid Governor or Governors, or Deputy Governors, or any Three or more of them, are hereby empowered and required to commit the Perfon fo offending to the Common Gaol, there to be kept without Bail or Mainprize for the Space of One Month, or at their Difcretion to fine fuch Perfon in any Sum not exceeding Five Pounds nor less than Forty Shillings.

XCI. And be it further enacted, That any Perfon who fhall, by Gratuity, Gift, or Reward, or by Promise thereof, or of any Indemnification, or by Menaces or otherwite, endeavour to prevail on any Chief or High Conttable or other Officer to make a falfe Return of any Lift for any Parish or Piace, or to erafe or leave out of any fuch Lift the Name of any Man who ought to be returned therein to ferve as a Militia Man, every fuch Perfon for every fuch Offence fhall forfeit and pay the Sum of Fifty Pounds; and if any Man fhall refufe to tell his Chriftian or Surname, or fhall falfely tell a Chriftian or Surname, or if any Perfon fhall refufe to tell the Chriftian or Surname of any Man lodging or refiding within his or her Houfe, or fhall knowingly tell any falfe Name, pretending it to be the true Name of any fuch Man, to any Conftable or other Officer authorized by this Act to demand the fame, fuch Perfon fhall forfeit and pay the

Sum of Ten Founds.

XCII. And be it further enacted, That whenever any Parish in Ireland, or any Parishes epifcopally or perpetually united, or any Part thereof respectively, fhall be fituate in Two or more Counties, the refpective Governor or Governors and Deputy Governors of the feveral and refpective Counties within which any Part or Parts of fuch Parish or united Parishes fo divided fhall be fituate, fhall comprise such Part of any Parish or united Parish fo divided as is fituated within their own County, in fuch District or Sub-divifion of fuch County as fhall be moft convenient for the Purposes of carrying this A&t into Execution, as if fuch Part of a Parish or united Parishes were a diftinct Parish within fuch County; and the Conftable or Conftables of such Dif. trict or Sub divifion fhall from Time to Time return the Names of the Inhabitants of fuch Part of every fuch Parish or united Parish as live within fuch County and Sub-divifion, to the belt of their Knowledge and Ability, to the Sub-divifional Meeting, in order that the Ballot may be made in fuch County from Lifts made accordingly,

XCIII. And be it further enacted, That it shall be lawful for the faid Governor or Governors, or Deputy Governors, within their refpective Divifions, to add together, whenfoever they fhall think it neceffary, the Lifts for two or more Parishes or Places, or Parts of Parishes or Places, and proceed upon fuch Lifts added together
