fuch Serjeant-Majors, Drum-Majors, Corporals, and Drummers who may be retained on conftant Pay, and refident at Head-Quarters, fhall be clothed Once in Two Years: Provided always, that when any Rates of Pay to Serjeant, Corporal, or Dummer fhall be abfent on Furlough or Li- Serjeants, Cor-, cence, fuch Serjeant, Corporal, or Drummer fhall, during fuch Abfence, porals, and Drummers, receive Pay at the following Rates inftead of thofe above-mentioned; when abfent on (that is to fay), every Serjeant the Sum of One Shilling a Day, every Furlough. Corporal the Sum of Eight-pence per Day, and every Drummer the Sum of Sixpence per Day refpectively, and no more; and it shall be lawful for the Secretary at War to caufe any fuch Pay to be from Time to Time iffued in Advance, for any Period not exceeding Four Months from the Time for which fuch Advances fhall be made.

II. And be it further enacted, That there fhall be granted to the Allowance to Surgeon of each Regiment, Battalion, or Corps of Regular Militia Surgeons. when difembodied, and Local Militia, a Sum of Money in addition to his Pay, after the Rate of One Guinea for every One hundred Men of each fuch Regiment, Battalion, or Corps, for the Expence of neceffary Medicines for the fick, Non-commiffioned Officers, Drummers, and Private Men of fuch Regiment, Battalion, or Corps during the Period or Periods of Affembly for annual Exercife or Training; and Sixpence per Month for each of the Non-commiffioned Officers and Drummers of any fuch Regiment, Battalion, or Corps on conftant Pay at HeadQuarters, for the Expence of neceflary Medicines and Attendance given to the Non-commiffioned Officers and Drummers on conftant Pay at Head-Quarters, while fuch Regiment, Battalion, or Corps is not called out for annual Training and Exercise.

III. And be it further enacted, That the Quarter-Mafter or Bat- Quarter-Mafter talion Clerk to each Regiment, Battalion, or Corps of Militia, or Local Militia, fhall have the Charge and Care of the Arms, Accoutrements, Clothing, Neceffaries, and other Storee, under the Arns, Clothing, Superintendance of the Colonel or Commandant; and fhall, out of the &c. and account Money hereby directed to be iffued and paid for defraying the contingent Expences of fuch Regiment, Battalion, or Corps, from Time to Time iffle out and pay fuch Sums of Money as may be neceffary for the Repair of Arms, upon an Order in Writing figned by the Colonel or other Commandant, and after Payment of fuch Sums as fhall be drawn upon him by the Colonel or other Commandant as aforefaid, he fhall Three Times in the Year make up Accounts of all fuch Money, and the Expenditure thereof, and the Balance remaining in his Hands; which faid Balance fhall form a Stock Purie for the Ufe of the Regi. Balance fhall form a Stock ment, Battalion, or Corps, and tranfmit the faine to the Colonel or Purfe for the other Commandant of fuch Regiment, Battalion, or Corps, to be by him Regiment, & examined, allowed, and figned; and the faid Accounts, fo allowed and figned, fhail be and are hereby directed to be the proper Vouchers and Acquittal of fuch Quarter-Maiter or Battalion Clerk, for the Application and Difpofal ot fuch Morey.

IV. And be it further enacted, That the Officers and Non-commiflioned Officers and private Men of the Regular Militia and Local Militia, when not drawn out and embodied, thall be entitled to the fame Pay and Allowance as the Regular Militia when drawn out and embodied: Provided always, that the faid Pay and Allowances fhall when called out only extend to fuch Period or Periods for which the faid Regular for annual Militia or Local Militia fhall be called out for the Purpofe of annual Exercife or Exercife or Training, or when called out for fuppreffing Riots or Training, &

A.D. 1809. Tumults, exclufive of the Days of arriving at and Departure from, and marching to and from the Place appointed for Exercife; any Thing in any Act or Acts of Parliament to the contrary notwithstanding.

V. And be it further enacted, That all Sums of Money granted for the Pay, Clothing, and contingent Expences for the Regular Militia (when difembodied), and Local Militia as aforefaid, fhall be iflued and paid under the Direction of the Secretary at War, who is hereby empowered to iffue fuch Regulations as he may deem it expedient to adopt, from Time to Time, in that Behalf.

VI. And Whereas in purfuance of an Act paffed in the prefent Seffion of Parliament, intituled, An Act for increafing the Rates of Subfiftence to be paid to Innkeepers and others on quartering Soldiers, certain increafed Rates are allowed for the Payment of Innholders and others on whom Non-commiffione Officers and private Soldiers may, by virtue of an A&t paffed alfo in the prefert Seffion of Parlia ment, for punishing Mutiny and Defertion, and for the better Pay• ment of the Army and their Quarters, be quartered in that Part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland called England, the Dominion of Wales, and the Town of Berwick upon-Tweed: And whereas by an Act paffed in the Forty-fecond Year of the Reign of His prefent Majelly, intituled. An Ad for amending the Laws relating to the Militia in England, and for augmenting the Militia; the Officers, Non commiffioned Officers, Drummers, and private Men of the faid Militia, when called out to annual Exercife, are required to be quartered and billetted in Inns, Livery Stables, Alehouses, Victualling Houfes, and all Houfes of Perfons felling Brandy, Strong Waters, Cyder, Wine, or Metheglin by Retail;' Be it enacted, That the Innholders and others on whom the faid Noncommiffioned Officers, Drummers, and private Men of the Regular Militia (when difembodied), or Local Militia fhall be fo quartered and billetted, fhall be entitled to and receive the fame Rates of Allowance for each Serjeant-Major, Drum-Major, Serjeant, Corporal, Drummer, and private Man fo quartered and biletted upon them, during the Time of their remaining affmbled for Exercife as aforefa'd, and under the fame Rules and Regulations as fuch Innholders or others may now, by the above-mentioned A&t for the Relief of Ionkeepers, demand and receive for the Non-commiffioned Officers, Drummers, and private Soldiers of the Regular Infantry, in the refpective Cafes of their furnishing them with Dict and Small Beer, or fupplying them in lieu thereof with the Articles specified in the faid Act for punishing Mutiny and Desertion; and the Secretary at War is hereby authorized and required to fupply the neceffary Funds to defray the Charge of the Allowances fo to be made to the faid Innholders and others: Provided always, that each of the Non-commiffioned Officers, Drummers, and private Men who fhall be furnished with Diet and Small Beer as aforefaid, fhall contribute towards the Expence thereof, the like Proportion of his Pay and Beer Money as is or fhall be contributed in the like Cafe by the Non-commiffioned Officers, Drummers, and Soldiers of the Regular Infantry.

IX. Provided always, and be it further enacted, That no Noncommiflioned Officer or private Man in the Regular Militia or Local Militia entitled to receive any Chelfen Pennons or Allowance, fhall forfeit or lofe his Right to the fame by reafon of his ferving and receiving Pay in the Regular Militia or Local Militia.

X. And whereas Perfons appointed to act as Adjutants in the Regular Militia may by Age or Infirmity be rendered incapable of doing the Duty thereof; and it is expedient that fome Provifion fhould be made for them in confideration of their former Services;' Be it enacted, That if any Adjutant of Regular Militia, who fhall have ferved faithfully either in His Majefty's Regu ar Forces or in the Regular Militia, for the full Term of Thirty Years in the Whole, Fifteen of which he fhall have ferved as an Adjutant of Regular Militia, fhall by Age or Infirmity be rendered unfit for further Service, be fhali, on producing to the Receiver-General of the Land Tax for the County, Riding, or Place to which tuch Regular Militia fhall belong if in England, or to the Receiver-General for Scotland if in Scotland, a Certificate of fuch Service of Thirty Years as atorefaid, from the Commanding Officers of the different Corps to which he thall have belonged, be entitled to receive, and the Receivers General aforefaid refpectiv.ly fhall be, and they are hereby authorized and required, to pay to fuch Perfon producing fuch Certificate as aforefaid, an Allow

A.D.1809. ance at the Rate of Six Shillings per Day: Provided always, that no Perfon fhall be entitled to receive fuch Allowance as aforefaid, who fhall have ferved for a lefs Term than Fifteen Years as an Adjutant of Regular Militia, or who fhall hold any Office or Employment of Profit, Civil or Military, under His Majefty, except as Regimental or Battalion Clerk of any Regiment, Battalion, or Corps of Regular Militia.

XI. And be it further enacted, That in cafe any Regiment, Battalion, Corps, or Independant Company fhall have already ceafed and determined, or been reduced in its Eftablishment, or fhall cease and determine, or be reduced in its Eftablishment, during the Continuance of this Act, the Sum of Three Shillings per Diem fhall be paid to fuch Perfon as has actually ferved as Adjutant to fuch Regiment, Battalion, Corps, or Independant Company, from the Twenty-fifth Day of March One thoufand eight hundred and nine, or from the Time fuch Regiment, Battalion, Corps, or Independant Company fhall ceafe and determine, or be reduced in its Eftablishment, as the Cafe may be, to the Twenty-fifth Day of March One thoufand eight hundred and ten.

XII. And whereas Perfons appointed to act as Surgeons in the Regular Militia may by Age or Infirmity be rendered incapable of doing the Duty thereof, and it is expedient that fome Provifion fhould be made for them in confideration of their former Services ;' Be it enacted, That if any Surgeon of Regular Militia, having faithfully served in the Militia for the full Term of Thirty Years, fhall 30 Years Service, by Age or Infirmity be rendered unfit for further Service, he fhall, on producing to the Receiver-General of the Land Tax for the County, Riding, or Place to which fuch Regular Militia fhall belong if in England, or to the Receiver-General for Scotland if in Scotland, a Certificate of fuch Service of Thirty Years as aforefaid, from the Commanding Officers of the different Corps to which he shall have belonged, be entitled to receive, and the Receivers-General aforefaid refpectively fhall be, and they are hereby authorized and required, to pay to fuch Perfon producing fuch Certificate as aforefaid, an Advance at the Rate of Three Shillings a Day: Provided always, That no Perfon fhall be entitled to receive fuch Allowance as aforefaid, who fhall hold any Office or Employment of Profit, Civil or Military, under His Majefty.

XIII. And be it further enacted, That in every County, Riding, or Place in England, where the Regular Militia or Local Militia is or fhall be railed, the Receiver or Receivers-General of the Land Tax for fuch County, Riding, or Place refpectively, and in every County, Stewartry, City, or Place in Scotland, where the Regular Militia or Local Militia is or fhall be raised, the Receiver-General for Scotland fhall iffue and pay the whole Sums required for the respective Allowances to the Clerks of the General Meetings, and Clerks of the feveral Sub-divifion Meetings in England, at the Rates following; that is to fay, to the Clerk of the General Meetings, at the Rate of Five Pounds Five Shillings for each Meeting; and to the feveral Clerks of the Subdivifion Meetings, at the Rate of One Pound One Shilling for each Meeting; and fuch further Allowance fhall be made to fuch refpective General and Sub-div:tion Clerks, for their Expences and Trouble in amending the Returns of Perfons returned liable to ferve in the Regular Militia or Local Militia, by taking out the Names of

all Perfons who may appeal, and whofe Appeals or Claims of Exemption have been allowed, and inferting the Names of any Perfons that fhall have been omitted to be inferted; and in numbering the Returns and making out the Tickets for the Ballot, after the Rate of One Pound Fifteen Shillings for every One thoufand Names of Perfons returned liable to ferve; and alfo for the actual Expences incurred by fuch refpective Clerks, and for Printing and Stationary used for the Purpose of this Act, as to the Lord Lieutenants or DeputyLieutenants of the refpective Counties, Ridings, Cities, or Places, fhall appear reasonable and proper; and in cafe the Orders made by the Lord Lieutenants or Deputy-Lieutenants for the Payment of fuch further Allowances as aforefaid, fhall be confirmed at a General Meeting confifting of not less than Five Deputy Lieutenants, but not otherwife. XIV. And be it enacted, That the Receivers General in England fhall pay to the Clerk of the General Meetings his Allowance, at Order for the Rate of Five Pounds and Five Shillings for each Meeting, or fuch receiving further Allowance as may be made as herein-before directed, upon his Paymeut. producing an Order or Orders for that Purpose from His Majefty's Lieutenant, or from Three Deputy- Lieutenants affembled at fome General Meeting or Meetings; and fhall also pay to each and every of the Clerks of the Sub-divifion Meetings, their feveral Allowances at the Rate of One Pound and One Shilling for each Meeting, or fuch further Allowance as may be made as herein before directed, upon his or their producing an Order or Orders from One or more DeputyLieutenant or Deputy Lieutenants, affembled in the feveral Subdivifion Meetings; which faid Order or Orders, specifying the Day or Days of Meeting, at what Place or Places and for what Purpose or Purposes the faid General and Sub-divifion Meeting or Meetings have been affembled and held, together with the Clerk's Receipt or Receipts for the Sums fo claimed, fhall be to the Receivers-General in England refpectively, a fufficient Difcharge for the Payment of fuch Allow ances, and be allowed in their Accounts; and that the feveral Allowances to Clerks of General and Sub-divifion Meetings, for their Trouble and Expences in the Execution of this A&t in Scotland, shall be paid and defrayed in the fame Manner in which Schoolmafters, Conftables, and other Perfons employed in the Execution of an Act, paffed in the Forty-fecond Year of the Reign of His prefent Majefty, intituled, An Ad to raise and establish a Militia Force in Scotland, are 42 G.3. c. 91. directed to be paid for their Trouble and Expences.

XV. Provided always, and be it further enacted, That it fhall be lawful for the Agent-General of Volunteers and Local Militia, and he is hereby required to re-pay any Sum of Money which may have been paid for the Stamp Duty, on any Commiffion of any Officer in the Local Militia, under fuch Regulations, and in fuch Manner, as the Secretary at War fhall appoint.

Stamp Duty on Commiftions Militia fhall be repaid.

XVI. And be it further enacted, That all Bills, Drafts, and Orders Bills, &c. for Pay, drawn for the Pay or Allowance of the Regular Militia (when dif- &c. exempt from embodied), or Local Militia under this Act, may or fhall be drawn Stamp Duty. upon unitamped Paper; and no fuch Bill, Draft, or Order fhall be veid, by reafon of being fo drawn or written on unstamped Paper.

XVII. Provided always, and be it enacted, That no Fee or No Fecs for Gratuity whatsoever fhall be given or paid for or upon account of any Warrants. Warrant or Sum of Money which fhall be iffued in relation to or in purfuance of this Act.
