diftilled in Ireland, and upon British Spirits imported into
Ireland, and upon Licences to fell Spirituous Liquors in
Ireland in Quantities not lefs than Two Gallons.

liament assembled, towards railing the neceffary Supplies, have freely and voluntarily refolved to give and grant unto Your Majefty the Duties herein after mentioned, and do moft humbly befeech Your Majefty that it may be enacted;' and be it enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent_Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That the Duty of Excife charged and payable under and by virtue of any Act or Acts in force in Ireland immediately before the paffing of this Act, for and upon every Gallon of Aqua Vitæ, Strong Waters, or Spirits, made or diftilled in Ireland from Corn malted or uamalted or from Sugar, or for which any Dutiller in Ireland is chargeable by Law, and alfo the Duty on the Importation into Ireland from Great Britain on every Gallon of Spirits made or diftilled from Corn or Grain, or Sugar, in Great Britain, fhall, from and after the Twenty-ninth Day of September One thoufand eight hundred and nine, be charged and paid in Ireland on all fuch Spirits as fhall be of a Strength not exceeding the Strength of One to Ten over Hydrometer Proof; and that for and upon every Gallon of all fuch Spirits of a greater Strength than One to Ten over Hydrometer Proof, there fhail be paid the like Duty as is payable for Spirits not exceeding the Strength of One to Ten over Hydrometer Proof; and alfo a further Duty in proportion to the Duty payable for Spirits of the fame Denomination according to the Degree of Strength

A.D. 1809. Strength in which fuch Spirits fhall exceed the faid Strength of One to Ten over Hydrometer Proof.

II. And be it further enacted, That from and after the Twentyninth Day of September Oae thousand eight hundred and nine, fo much of an Act made in the Forty-eighth Year of His prefent Majefty's Reign, intituled, An Act to repeal certain Duties of Excife in Ireland. and to grant certain Stamp Duties in lieu thereof, and alfo certain other Stamp Duties, and to amend the Laws relating to the Stamp Duties in Ireland, and of the Schedule thereto annexed, as impofes any Duties on Licences to fell Spirituous Liquors in Quantities not less than Two Gallons and not exceeding Fifty Gallons, shall be and the fame is hereby repealed.

III. And be it further enacted, That from and after the Twentyninth Day of September One thoufand eight hundred and nine, there fhall be paid unto His Majefty, His Heirs and Succeffors, for and upon every Skin or Piece of Vellum or Parchment, or Sheet or Piece of Paper, on which fhall be ingroffed, written, or printed any Licence to any Perfon in Ireland to fell any Kind of Spirituous Liquors in any Place in Ireland in Quantities not lefs than Two Gallous, the like Stamp Duty as is payable under any Act or Acts in force in Ireland on a Licence to fell Spirituous and other Liquors by Retail in any fuch Place refpectively.

V. And be it further enacted, That it fhall and may be lawful for the Commiffioners of Inland Excife and Taxes in Ireland, or any Three Commitlioners of of them, to frame and make fuch Rules and Regulations, and to give fuch Orders and Directions to the feveral Officers of Excife and Customs in Ireland, and to the feveral Distillers and Perfons making or diftilling of Spirits in Ireland, for the afcertaining the Strength at which any Spirits fhall be diftilled in Ireland, and the Amount of the Duty payable thereon in proportion to fuch Strength; and in like Manner it shall be lawful for the Commiffioners of Customs and Port Duties, or any Three of them, to frame and make fuch Rules and Regulations, and to give fuch Orders and Directions to the several Officers of Cuftoms in Ireland, and to all Perfons concerned in the Importation into Ireland of Spirits made and diftilled in Great Britain, for the afcertaining the Strength of fuch Spirits, and the Amount of the Duty payable thereon, in proportion to fuch Strength as the faid Commiffioners refpectively fhall from Time to Time think fitting and expedient for fuch Purpofes; and all fuch Rules, Regulations, Orders, and Directions, shall be obeyed and complied with by all Officers of the Excife and Customs, and by ali Ditiliers and other Perfons concerned in the diftilling or importing of any fuch Spirits respectively.

An Act to continue, until the Fifth Day of July One thousand eight hundred and ten, several Acts for granting certain Rates and Duties, and for allowing certain Drawbacks and Bounties on Goods, Wares, and Merchandize, imported into and exported from Ireland.

HEREAS it is expedient to make further Regulations for the Collection of the Rates and Duties in respect of Carriages, Servants, Horfes, and Dogs, in Ireland; Be it therefore enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That fo much and fuch Parts of an A&t, made in the Forty-eighth Year of his prefent Majefty's Reign, intituled, An Ad to grant to His Majefty certain Duties and Taxes in Ireland, in refpe& of Carriages, Dogs, Fire hearths, Horfes, Male Servants, and Windows, in lieu of former Duties and Taxes in respect of the like Articles, as enacts, That the Collector of the Taxes on Fire-hearths, or fome Officer appointed by the Commiffioners of Inland Excife and Taxes, fhall yearly within Sixty-one Days after the Fifth Day of January One thousand eight hundred and nine, and in each and every fubfequent Year. caufe to be affixed on the Doors of the Church, Chapel, Market-Houfe, or publick School House of every Parish or Place, as in the faid A& mentioned, a general Notice to the Perfons refiding in fuch Parish or Place, to make out and deliver the Lifts and Accounts of Carriages, Servants, Horfes, and Dogs, as in the faid Act is mentioned, in Manner as by the faid Act is directed, and as impofes any Penalty on any Perfon who fhall neglect or refufe to make out or deliver fuch Lift or Account in Manner in the faid A&t mentioned; and alfo fo much and and § 7, as to fuch Part of the faid recited A&t as directs that the Collectors of the particular Taxes on Fire-hearths, or other Officer in the faid Act mentioned, Notices by them." repealed. fhall yearly within Sixty-one Days after the Fifth Day of January One thoufand eight hundred and nine, and in each and every fublequent Year, leave particular Notices with the Perfons in the faid A& mentioned, to prepare and produce and deliver Lifts and Accounts in the faid Act mentioned, fhall be and the fame is and are hereby repealed.

And be it further enacted, That the Supervisors of the Taxes Collectors, &c. on Fire-hearths, or the Collectors thereof in their refpective Walks or fhall yearly poft Divifions, or any other Officer appointed for that Purpofe by the general Notices Commiffioners of Inland Excife and Taxes, fhall, within Sixty-one Doors, &c. for Days after the paffing of this Act, and yearly within Sixty-one Days Returns under after the Fifth Day of January One thoufand eight hundred and ten, 47 G. 3. ft. 1. and in each and every fubfequent Year, and at fuch other Davs and c. 21. from Times as the faid Commiffioners of Inland Excife and Taxes fhall from Perfons liable to the Duties, Time to Time order, direct, and appoint, cause to be affixed on the

Doors of the Church or Chapel, or Market- House, or publick School House, if any fuch there shall be, of every Parish or Place within the refpective Walks or Divifions of fuch Supervisor, Collector, or Officer, or in fuch of the faid Parishes and Places as fhall be prefcribed and directed by the faid Commiffioners (and if any Parish or Place fhall not have a Church or Chapel, Market-Houfe, or publick School House therein, then on the Doors of the Church or Chapel, or Market House or School Houfe of the nearest or adjoining Parish), a general Notice in Writing figned by fuch Supervifor, Collector, or other Officer, in fuch Form as fhall be directed by the faid Commiffioners, addreffed to all Perfons refiding in fuch Parish or Place, who by an A&t made in the Forty-feventh Year of His prefent Majefty's Reign, intituled, An Act to provide for regulating and fecuring the Collection of certain Rates and Taxes in Ireland, in respect of Davelling Houses, Firi bearths, Windows, Male Servants, Horjes, Dogs, and Carriages, are required to make out, and deliver Lifts or Accounts of Carriages, Servants, Horfes, and Dogs, requiring that fuch Perfons fhall make out the Lifts and Accounts required by the faid recited A&t, and shall deliver the fame directed to or for the faid Supervisor or Collector of Taxes on Fire-hearths, or to or for the said Officer appointed as aforefaid, at fome Houfe or Flace within the faid Parish or Place to be specified in fuch Notice, within Twenty-one Days after the Date of fuch Notice; and fuch general Notice shall from Time to Time, when the fame fhall be affixed, be deemed a Requifition or Demand upon every Perfon within fuch Parish or Place, to deliver fuch Lifts or Accounts within the faid Space of Twenty-one Days accordingly; and if any Perfon within fuch Parish or Place fhall neglect or refufe to make out and deliver fuch Lift or Account at the House or Place mentioned in fuch Notice, directed in Manner aforefaid, within the faid Space of Twenty-one Days, or fhall make or deliver any undue or falfe Lift or Account, every fuch Perfon fhall for every fuch Offence be fubject and liable to the like Penalties and Forfeitures and Payments as Perfons neglecting to deliver Lifts or Accounts of Carriages, Servants, Horfes, or Dogs, or delivering undue or falfe Lifts or Accounts of fuch Matters, are by the faid recited Act of the Forty-feventh Year aforefaid fubje&t and liable; and ali Perfons fhall be liable to fuch Penalties, Forfeitures, and Payments, for not complying with fach general Notices, whether any particular Notice requiring any fuch Lit Thall have been delivered or left to or for fuch Perfon or not; and if any fuch general Notice fo affixed fhall be removed or defaced at any Time during the faid Space of Twenty-one Days, the refpective Supervifor or Collector, or any Officer concerned in the Collection of Hearth Money, fhall, from Time to Time, caufe a fimilar Notice to be fo affixed, and fo from Time to Time as often as Occafion fhall require during the faid Space of Twenty-one Days; and any Perfon who fhall wilfully tear, deface, or obliterate any fuch Notice fo affixed, fhali forfeit for every fuch Offence a Sum not exceeding Twenty Pounds nor lefs than Five Pounds.

III. Provided always, and be it enacted, That whether fuch general Notice fhall be posted or not as aforefaid, the Collector of the Taxes on Fire-hearths, or any Officer appointed by or acting under the Commiffioners of Inland Excife and Taxes in Ireland, to collect or fuperintend the Collection of all or any of the Duties and Taxes under the Perfons liable to Management of the faid Commiffioners, fhail and may, from Time to

Time, give or ferve, or cause to be given or ferved, a particular Notice or Notices with any Perfon or Perfons in their refpective Walks, Divifiops, or Dincts, liable or fuppofed to be liable to the Duties on Carriages, Maie Servants, Dogs, Horfes, Mares, Geldings, or Mules, or any of them, requiring all fuch Perfons refpectively to deliver to fuch Colle&or or Officer within Ten Days next after fuch Notice given or ferved. the feveral Lifts and Accounts required to be delivered by the faid recited Act of the Forty-feventh Year aforefaid, in Manner required by the laid rec'ted A&t; and that it shall and may be lawful for fuch Supervifor or Collector of the Taxes on Fire-hearths, or other Officer as aforefaid, to caule fuch Notice to be ferved at the House or Place of Abode of any fuch Perfon, by delivering the fame to the Owner or Occupier of fuch Houfe, or to the Wife, or to fome Child or Servant of any fuch Person above the Age of S'xteen Years; and every Notice fo ferved fhall be deemed to be duly given and ferved within the Intent and Meaning of this Act, and of every Act in force in Ireland refpeting the Duties on Fire-hearths, Windows, Carriages, Servants, Hortes, or Dogs; and in cafe any Perfon to or on whom, or at whofe House or Place of Abode any fuch Notice shall be fo given or ferved as aforefaid, fhall negl &t or refuse to deliver any fuch Lift or Account as fhall by the faid Notice be required, or shall make or deliver any undue or falfe Lift or Account, every fuch Perfon fhall for every fuch Offence be fubj.&t and liable to the like Penalties, Forfeitures, and Payments, as Perfons,neglecting to deliver fuch Lifts or Accounts, or delivering undue or falfe Lifts or Accounts, are fubj. &. and liable to by or under the f il recited Act of the Forty-feventh Year aforefaid; and all fuch Perfons fhall be liable to the faid Penalties, Forfeitures, and Payments, for not complying with fuch particular Notices, whether any fuch general Notice as by this Act is required fhall have been posted in Manner aforefaid or not.

IV. And be it further enacted, That the Notices by this A& required to be given by any Officer in refpect of the Rates, Taxes, and Duties mentioned in this Act, requiring fuch Lift or Account as therein mentioned, and the feveral Lits or Accounts to be delivered pursuant to fuch Notices by every Perfon subject to the faid Rates, Taxes, and Duties, or any of them, fhall and may be in fuch Form and Forms, adapted to the particular Lifts or Accounts required, as the Commiffioners of Inland Excile and Taxes in Ireland may from Time to Time order, direct, and appoint.

Provided always, and be it enacted, That in cafe any Perfon In abfence of having or owning any Houfe fubject to any Tax in refpect of Fire- Parties, Lifts hearths or Windows, or keeping, uling, retaining or employing any Carriage or any Male Servant or other Male Perfon, or any Dog, or any Horfe, Mare, Gelding, or Mule, upon or in refpect of which any Rate, Tax or Duty is or may be payable as aforefaid, fhall be abfent from the Place of his Abode at the Time of the Service of fuch Notice requiring fuch Lift or Account with refpect to fuch Taxes as aforefaid, then a Lift or Account of any and every Carriage, or Male Servant or Maie Perfon, or Dog or Horfe, Mare, Gelding or Mule, kept, used, retained, or employed by fuch Perfon, male out and fubfcribed by the Agent, Steward or Servant of such Perfon fo absent and delivered as aforefaid, fhall be to all Intents and Purposes of the fame Effect as if fuch Lift or Account were made out and subfcribed and delivered by the Perfon owning and occupying such House, 49 Geo.
