Environmental Education and Advocacy: Changing Perspectives of Ecology and Education

Front Cover
Edward A. Johnson, Michael J. Mappin
Cambridge University Press, Mar 3, 2005 - Nature - 333 pages
Great efforts have been made to improve understanding of the environment via programmes offered by educational establishments, government agencies, NGOs and industry groups among others. Criticism exists that sometimes environmental 'education' is actually 'advocacy' of particular values and beliefs, and that there is no real definition of what constitutes environmental education. The editors have assembled a strong team to examine the issues arising from the use and abuse of the term 'ecology' in environmental education, in an attempt to encourage ecologists to become more engaged with education at all levels.
