This book is unquestionably one of the best histories of Wales every written. Like the author, it is short but packs a mighty punch. It scans the landscape of Wales as sees the country for what it is - a people who, against all odds, have survived by making and remaking themselves generation after generation.
Brilliantly written, poetic in places, the book reveals the full drama of Welsh history. Whether or not you agree with Gwyn Alf Williams' Marxist take on Welsh history, this is essential reading for anyone interested in Wales and the Welsh.

Love Gwyn A. Williams' writing but to study and use him as a secondary source is infuriating! Read full review
